Vitiligo
Vitiligo is a condition that causes spots or patches of lighter skin. It happens when the skin cells stop producing melanin, which is the pigment that gives skin its color. Â
While vitiligo is not a dangerous medical condition, it can affect how kids feel about themselves. That’s why our pediatric dermatologists work hard to reduce its effects. We want kids to feel good inside and out.Â

Diagnosing and Treating Vitiligo at ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ Children’s
ÀÖ²¥´«Ã½ doctors see hundreds of children with vitiligo every year. We’ll ask about family history of thyroid disease or diabetes, and certain autoimmune conditions like alopecia (hair loss). We may use an ultraviolet (UV) light to look at your child’s skin. Â
Some types of vitiligo can go away without treatment. We may use UV therapy or medicated creams to help even out skin tone. Our team helps you understand the condition and how to manage it as your child grows. Â
