Get to Know Me

One of my goals as a pediatrician, is to make sure kids have the best possible chance to enjoy their childhood – to help them grow up to lead happy, healthy lives. The best way I can make that happen, is by encouraging  healthy lifestyle choices, as well as working with our community partners to spread health promotion.

Why I Treat Children

As a pediatrician, I provide care to kids with a wide range of medical issues. I’m humbled to believe that my efforts could have a positive impact on children. My work is devoted to developing programs that promote healthy lifestyles in kids.

What I'm Passionate About

Childhood obesity is becoming an epidemic and can lead to diabetes, heart disease, and other serious medical problems later in life – and it’s largely avoidable. I feel strongly that our society can reverse this alarming trend if we teach parents and children how to manage weight and make healthier choices early in life.

How I Try to Make A Difference

I direct a weight management program that provides medical, nutritional, and psychosocial help for kids and their families. As the Chief of General Academic Pediatrics and Hospital Medicine, I work with my division to provide services that bridge primary care pediatrics and subspecialty care to meet the needs of patients. I love working with the Office of Quality and Safety to help doctors and nurses improve quality and health outcomes.

Research Activities

I serve as the Chief of ֲý Children's Hospital's Division of General Academic Pediatrics and Hospital Medicine, as well as direct a multidisciplinary weight management program focusing on the medical, nutritional, and psychosocial care of children with obesity. Caring for children with health consequences from their obesity motivates me to work towards prevention. I also direct ֲý Florida Prevention Initiative, which sponsors community outreach projects to help young children grow up healthy and ready to learn. I’ve authored and contributed to several manuscripts, presentations, and abstracts related to how patient care delivery can be improved, as well as efforts to promote healthy lifestyle changes. I’ve served on professional societies' boards and committees and have academic appointments with University of Central Florida, Florida State University, and University of South Florida. I also lead the ֲý Maintenance of Certification program, part of the Office of Quality and Safety, and contribute to projects promoting effective clinical decision-making.
